Revelation Series

I have heard numerous people talk about Revelation and it’s almost always been said that the book is about helping us understand both the timeline of end time events and, interpreting the times we are in.  Yes it has some things to say about this (which we should be very cautious in being dogmatic about) but what Revelation actually holds out to us is the clearest vision of God’s ultimate purpose for the whole of creation, the overthrow of evil and the victory of God.  In a world often filled with violence and hatred, John’s glorious images of the end of days are a clarion call to all Christians to be tireless, faithful witnesses to God’s love.

Resources:

The following are the resources I recommend you use in preparation.  I would really recommend you study well as there is some complex theology in this book.

i)Tom Wright’s - ‘Revelation for Everyone’ (I have a copy and study guide)

ii)There are also numerous videos of NT wright on youtube

iii)Bible Course session 8 on Revelation (Youtube has lots of different links like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4b3uWkG2UE)

iv)The bible Project overview of Revelation, it’s in two parts:

https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/revelation-1-11/

https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/revelation-12-22/

v)Livvi’s overview of Revelation on the 9th Feb can be found on youtube (Gleneagles Church) and on our church public facebook page

vi)My introduction to the series on the 18th May 2025 can be found on youtube (Gleneagles Church) and on our church public facebook page

vii)Another church who has preached through Revelation:

Before you start preparing for your own sermon please make sure you’ve listened to the others, firstly so you don’t repeat things but also importantly, so we don't contradict each others theology!

I explained in my own introductory sermon on the 18th May how I see this book and gave a little thought to the often talked about concepts of rapture, tribulation, the millenia, the second coming, heaven, etc.  I was brief so as these things arise please be free to explore different theories.  For example, post or pre-millenialists but I ask please don't be dogmatic about these things.  Jesus made it clear in Matthew 24:36, Mark 13:32, and Luke 17:32 that even he did not know the hour or day of his return.

HOPE In……’ Sermon series

This is a series that’s been on my heart for a while.  One of the most amazing things we have as Christians is ‘hope’, despite circumstances.  And it is this that we have to offer everyone we meet.  So I’d like it to be a really practical series.  It would be great if each week, whoever is preaching, to please find someone who is willing to give a testimony as part of the sermon to demonstrate how they have or are finding hope in what they are facing, what strategies are they using to cultivate hope?…..  I currently don't have any particular resources to offer you but if I come across something I will let you know.

Hope in….ill health (mental, emotional, psychological)

Hope in.…financial stress

Hope in….loss (bereavement

Hope in….work (meaning, purpose, vocation, sense of call)

Hope in….stress/pressure
