We Take Safeguarding Seriously…

Here are six reminders of how you can make our church a safe church, building safe and healthy cultures for everyone.  You may note that, by chance, the six reminders are the six principles that we have signed up to as part of the Church of England

SAFER CHURCH

.

1. Promote a safer environment and culture
2. Safely recruit, train and support all those with any responsibility related to children and vulnerable adults within the Church
3. Respond promptly to every safeguarding concern or allegation
4. Care pastorally for victims/survivors of abuse and other affected persons
5. Care pastorally for those who are the subject of concerns or allegations of abuse and other affected persons
6. Respond to those that may pose a present risk to others

ON-LINE SAFEGUARDING TRAINING

The Diocese also brinsg good news that the C1 Foundation Training Module in an on-line version is now available. Many will contend that there is really no substitute for face-to face training which brings trainees into immediate contact with the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisers, but it is hoped that this option will provide a facility that allows people to be trained efficiently to an appropriate standard when face-to-face training is impractical.

How to access the course

In order to access the course please click on the link below:

Once on this page, those wishing to complete the course should click on the ‘Online courses’ button. Then please click ‘take this course’ next to C1 Foundations.

If someone needs to register as a new user, they will need to click the ‘create new account’ button.

They will then be prompted to:

• Create a username and password
• Enter their email address and confirm this
• First name
• Surname
• City
• Country
• Diocese – selected via drop down list
• TEI – If not part of a training institution users are required to select ‘not part of a Training Institution – option 1 on the drop down list
• Enter the name of their church (or cathedral) – this enables completions to be tracked by parish or cathedral
• Enter their church role

Upon completion of this information users will receive an email to the email address they have used to sign up; this email contains a link which must be followed to confirm their registration.
Once confirmed, users are able to log in using the username and password they created and complete the course.
At the end of the course users are able to print a certificate.  The Diocesan Safeguarding Team can view who has completed the on-line training, how long it has taken and will ensure the database is updated with the completed training course details.
